A few weeks back, my best friend lost her virginity to this guy. She said it was because she "loved him", but we all knew he was a sleeze. They started going out. But one time when we all went to a show together I saw him hanging all over this other girl, while my friend was in the front. I confronted him about it, and he said it was his friend, so I brushed it aside. Two weeks later, he dumped her. We all knew he used her, but she couldn't let herself think it. In a one week period, a girl who always had a smile on her face, and was always looking incredible, suddenly slipped into this state of oblivion, where nothing mattered but getting him back. She was forgetting to eat, shower, change her clothes, and smile.

Seeing her go through that was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen. About a week later, she came into school drunk. I didn't know what to do. I was so upset, I had to excuse myself from class. (She used to never drink.) When I came back to class, my other friend told me to take a look at her wrist. After class she and I walked to our locker. While she waited for me to get my books to go home, I moved all her bracelets from her arm…and saw a huge cut. I immediately started to cry and asked her why she tried. And she said it was because she missed her ex, but she couldn’t go through with it because she didn't want to hurt me. (We have been attached at the hip since we met at 2.)

The next day I made one of the hardest choices of my life…to betray her trust. A friend and I went down to the guidance office and told them everything. The entire time, I felt like I was going to throw up, but I knew I had to do it. Later on that day she got called down, and when she came back to class, she walked up and gave me a huge hug. We both started crying and she whispered "thank you" in my ear. Now she goes to therapy, and takes kickboxing to get out some of her anger. She is back to her normal self, and is the happy go lucky girl I've always loved!

My story ends happily, not like most on this site. But I guess it was just a message to people thinking about suicide: you really don’t know what you have, until you are willing to give everything up to protect it. If I had lost her that night, I don’t know where I would be right now.
